Love the game. This is probably my favorite genre/period. I bought SPIs WolfPack and UpScope when they first came out (yes, I'm that old), along with Avalon Hill's Submarine (still one of my favorites). But as Gary Graber said, this is the only game that I know of that covers the strategic and tactical aspect simultaneously (albeit, slightly abstract).
Simple rules, simple game play but it forces you to think more about Where and How you will attack. Ignoring the North Atlantic for safer targets will allow the Allies to quickly build their fourth convoy and hand you an immediate loss. But concentrate in the North Atlantic and you risk losing too many boats, suffering a morale defeat.
I'm still trying to find that balance so I can relive the Happy Time and win.
PAY ATTENTION to the Miscellaneous Rules (15.0). I easily missed little things like "...[treating Convoy markers] as if it were a one-factor Escort when conducting ASW attacks." That could make the difference between success and failure in the North Atlantic.
It's on my Recommend Buy n' Play list.
