Optional Chimera Upgrades

A roughly 32-inch-long science and survey starship with a multilevel bridge, complete playable interior, cargo lift, internal hangar, engineering complex, sensor systems, and nearly 300 unique components.

The Starship Odyssey is 2nd Dynasty’s flagship science, survey, and deep-space adventuring vessel, custom printed at full 28mm scale for tabletop roleplaying games, skirmish games, wargames, and display.

Odyssey began as an effort to add modern curved hull components to the Chimera family but developed into an almost entirely new ship. Approximately 90 percent of its components are new or substantially upgraded, including its curved upper and lower hull sections, modular bulkheads, modernized floor tiles, structural-support channels, interior insert slots, and completely revised deck arrangement.

Large enough to serve as the permanent home of an adventuring crew, Odyssey is equally suited to scientific expeditions, diplomatic missions, survey operations, cargo voyages, rescue work, or campaigns built around exploration beyond established space.

Starship Odyssey science and survey starship in 28mm scale

Starship Odyssey combines a curved modular hull, panoramic bridge, internal hangar, cargo facilities, sensor systems, and a complete playable interior.

The curved hull and multiengine stern distinguish Odyssey from the earlier Chimera designs.

Designed Around Playability

Odyssey was created as a practical gaming environment rather than a sealed display model. Hull, deck, and interior sections can be removed or separated as play moves through the vessel.

The interior is organized around distinct tactical and narrative spaces, including the panoramic bridge, crew areas, science facilities, hangar, cargo bay, engineering complex, power core, sensor spaces, maintenance passages, and crawlspaces.

Modular bulkheads allow experienced hobbyists to alter doorway positions and room arrangements. Insert slots accept compatible furniture, equipment, computers, machinery, and other interior pieces without requiring every detail to be permanently glued in place.

The multilevel arrangement includes bridge, crew, science, engineering, hangar, cargo, sensor, and maintenance spaces.

The Panoramic Bridge

The forward command complex occupies several levels beneath the ship’s transparent bubble-style bow. Command stations, observation areas, and connected control spaces provide a dramatic centerpiece for the model.

The bridge can host navigation, command, scientific observation, diplomatic meetings, emergency operations, mutiny scenarios, or the final defense of the ship while hostile forces advance through its forward compartments.

Cargo and Hangar Operations

Odyssey contains both a generous cargo bay and a dedicated internal hangar. A cargo lift connects working areas of the ship, allowing freight, equipment, recovered artifacts, mission supplies, or damaged machinery to move between levels.

The hangar is included as part of the standard Odyssey and is sized to accommodate the compatible Outback PS-7 Shuttle Pod or another very small aerospace vehicle.

The Shuttle Pod itself is not included with the standard ship. It is supplied only when the Outback PS-7 Shuttle Pod option is selected.

The internal hangar and cargo spaces support shuttle operations, freight missions, salvage, exploration, and boarding scenarios.

Science, Survey, and Exploration

Odyssey is equipped for scientific and survey operations far from established facilities. Its sensor array, laser-lens installations, science facilities, engineering systems, cargo capacity, hangar, and extensive internal spaces allow the ship to function as a mobile laboratory and expedition base.

The two laser-lens arrays may represent scientific instruments, broadside energy systems, long-range scanners, communications equipment, or specialized mission hardware according to the setting and scenario.

On the tabletop, Odyssey can support planetary surveys, first-contact missions, archaeological expeditions, rescue operations, diplomatic voyages, cargo runs, boarding actions, scientific emergencies, alien encounters, sabotage investigations, or campaigns centered upon the unexplored frontier.

Detailed interior systems turn Odyssey into a complete campaign location rather than a simple exterior model.

What Is Included in the Standard Odyssey

The listed base price includes one complete standard Starship Odyssey. No optional selection is required to receive a fully functional physical starship.

The standard ship includes its complete exterior hull, removable deck sections, multilevel bridge, normal engine assemblies, cargo bay, cargo lift, internal hangar, science facilities, engineering areas, FTL-drive and power-core complex, crawlspaces, laser-lens arrays, sensor installation, modular bulkheads, and standard interior components.

The structural components include channels designed to accept optional 6mm reinforcement rods. Reinforcement rods are not included and must be supplied by the purchaser if that construction method is used.

The Outback PS-7 Shuttle Pod, Cargo Bay Ramp, Science Upgrade, and Alternate Side Weapon Set are not included in the standard price. They are supplied only when selected as paid options.

Optional Odyssey Additions

The following official 2nd Dynasty additions may be purchased with the standard Odyssey. Each selected option will be printed and supplied with the complete ship order.

  • Outback PS-7 Shuttle Pod: Adds one complete small shuttle designed to fit inside the Odyssey’s internal hangar.
  • Cargo Bay Ramp: Adds the official external ramp and associated components for direct surface or dockside access to the cargo bay.
  • Science Upgrade: Adds the official enhanced science-laboratory equipment and related interior components to the standard science spaces.
  • Alternate Side Weapon Set: Replaces or supplements the corresponding standard exterior equipment with selected official side-mounted weapon components.

Optional additions may replace or rearrange particular exterior or interior components. Canvas Temple will contact the purchaser before production if a selected combination requires clarification.

Odyssey Optional-Addition Gallery

The following items are not automatically included with the standard Odyssey. They are supplied only when purchased through the corresponding product option.

The base Odyssey already includes the complete hangar, cargo bay, science facilities, and standard exterior equipment.
The additions shown below expand or modify those existing areas.

Conning Tower Bridge Conversion

Conning Tower Bridge conversion for Starship Odyssey

Available by Separate Quotation

The official Conning Tower Bridge adds two additional decks, including a five-person bridge, an airlock, a cartography or astrogation suite, and another configurable chamber.

The Conning Tower materially changes the ship’s height, component count, assembly process, packed dimensions, and shipping requirements. It is therefore not offered as a normal checkbox option. Customers interested in this conversion should contact Canvas Temple before ordering to obtain a separate quotation.

Assembly Guide and Designer Information

Odyssey is an exceptionally large and complex modular model. Review the assembly guide before gluing structural components, cutting reinforcement rods, permanently joining deck sections, or installing optional additions.

Relationship to the Chimera Family

Odyssey began as a modernization of the Chimera platform, but approximately 90 percent of the completed vessel consists of new or substantially upgraded components. It is therefore sold as its own complete starship rather than as a Chimera conversion kit.

The standard Starship Chimera, Pathfinder, Pegasus, Cerberus, and Ghost Ship Ataphoi have different hulls, interiors, instructions, and production requirements and are sold through separate product listings.

Printing and Production

This model is custom printed to order in PLA plastic using licensed 2nd Dynasty design files. Components are printed slowly at approximately 0.12–0.16mm layer height, depending upon the dimensions and requirements of the individual part.

Odyssey is an exceptionally large project containing nearly 300 unique components, a complete multilevel interior, removable hull sections, engines, bridge, hangar, cargo, engineering, science, sensor, and maintenance areas. Please allow approximately 6–10 weeks for printing, inspection, organization, packing, and shipment. Production time may vary according to the selected additions and the current printing queue.

Important Information About 3D-Printed Models

Layer lines, support-contact marks, minor surface texture, and small cosmetic variations are normal characteristics of FDM 3D printing and are not defects. Some preparation may be required before assembly and painting.

PLA models should be stored indoors and protected from excessive heat and prolonged direct sunlight. This product contains small components and is intended for hobbyists age 14 and older.
